‘Twelfth Night’ Auditions

Spring semester is quickly approaching, and so are the rescheduled auditions for ‘Twelfth Night’! A classic Shakespearean comedy that revolves around mistaken identities. (For those of you who prefer a more modern version, ‘She’s the Man’ starring Amanda Bynes, is based on this play.)

From director Jeff Turner. . .
“Auditions for Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night will take place on Monday, February 6, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM in the Anne Simley Theatre (if need be, we will move forward into the 10:00 o’clock hour). Please sign-up for an hour-long slot on the doors of Studio 67.
There are plenty of roles for actors of all genders, races and ethnicities. Indeed, I am more than open to smart and challenging choices which reflect non-traditional casting strategies, and I am very interested in the possibilities around casting performers across traditional boundaries of gender.
All actors are requested to prepare one of Shakespeare’s sonnets for performance during the Monday night audition. Ideally, you will have memorized your sonnet, presenting strong, creative, specific choices which speak to your understanding of the sonnet’s dramatic/theatrical potential. Those unable to fully commit your audition piece to memory are invited to work with a copy of your text in hand. What I am specifically looking for are strong physical and vocal choices as well as smart and engaging interpretations of your performance texts. Additionally, actors will read from Shakespeare’s play.
Musicians are highly desired!
Call-backs will take the following evening, Tuesday, February 7, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM in the Anne Simley Theatre.”

Rehearsals will begin in late February, and the show opens on April 20th. Following performances will be the 21st, 26th, 27th and 28th of April.

New Time & Place for ‘Alice in Wonderland’!

Hello all,
The show is still today, January 26th, but the show has had to change it’s time & place.
‘Alice in Wonderland’ will be presented at Hamline from 8:00 to 9:00 tonight in the Bush Student Center Ballroom.
It’s free and it’s the only performance at Hamline!
What a great way to end J-Term! (Or start Spring Semester.)

‘Alice in Wonderland’

The Children’s Theatre class has been hard at work this January producing this year’s traveling children’s show, ‘Alice in Wonderland’! The show has started touring the cities and will be here at Hamline on Thursday, January 26th. The performance is at 7:00 PM in the Anne Simley Theatre. It lasts about an hour. . .did we mention it’s free? Bring all your friends and family!

The auditions for ‘Twelfth Night’ have been postponed until February. More time to work on those sonnets! More detailed information will be posted when we know.

First off, congratulations to all those who were cast in Alice and Wonderland (the touring children’s show) and The Oresteia Project. We all look forward to seeing Alice in Wonderland this winter, and The Oresteia Project in the spring!

Can’t get enough auditions? Auditions for Twelfth Night come up shortly after Thanksgiving break! Come show us your stuff on Monday, November 28th, at 6:00 PM in the Anne Simley Theatre. They will run in half-hour increments until 9:00 PM or later, if needed. Sign up on the door of Drew 67. Be sure to prepare one of Shakespeare’s sonnets for your audition:
